Privacy Policy
The Daly Citizen (dalycitizen.org) is a free blog and email newsletter about Daly City government, written by one resident. This page says what information the site collects and what happens to it.
What is collected
If you subscribe. Your email address, and your name if you give one. That is what the newsletter needs to reach you. The site also records how you arrived at the signup (for example, from a post or from the home page) and whether newsletter emails are opened and which links in them are clicked. That is the newsletter software's standard tracking; it is used only to see which posts people read.
If you comment. Comments are open to subscribers. Your name and comment are public under the post. You can edit or delete your own comments.
If you just read. The site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies and reports anonymous visit counts, pages viewed and rough location by city. The hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and operations.
The site does not take payments, does not sell anything and does not sell or rent your information to anyone.
Who handles the data
- Ghost (Pro), run by the Ghost Foundation, hosts the site and stores the subscriber list and comments.
- Mailgun delivers the newsletter emails on Ghost's behalf.
- Google Analytics provides the visit statistics.
Each of these has its own privacy policy. Nobody else receives subscriber information.
Cookies
The site sets a cookie to keep you signed in as a subscriber, and Google Analytics sets its own. You can block cookies in your browser; the posts still read fine without them.
Your choices
- Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn emails on or off from your account.
- To delete your account and data entirely, email the address below and it will be removed.
- You can ask what the site holds about you at the same address.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date below will change with it.
